MWKTK17 – Culture – Conservation – Community

There is only a little over 3 months to go until we launch the Melbourne Water Kids Teaching Kids Conference!!!!

We have over 500 delegates from more than 50 schools including interstate representatives from South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory. We even have one school coming Australia’s 9th state, New Zealand!!!

Culture – Conservation – Community

The theme this year is all about the value of water. We are challenging students to think about what water (and the environment) means to them and to different communities around the country and the world.

Here is a little taster of how some schools are interpreting the theme for their presentations. Check out #MWKTK17 on Instagram to see more of the title/blurbs that have come in so far.

(Environmental Project Day)

Mentone Primary School

Pinewood Primary School

Ngaoa Jukurrpa

(Water Dreaming)

We will connect to Aboriginal Culture by identifying boundaries and regions across Australia and their connection to Freshwater and Saltwater water supplies. We will map out permanent and temporary water and share stories and language.

Ban the Balloon,

Embrace the Bubble!

Have you ever thought about what happens to balloons after you have finished having fun with them? Have you considered the impact they have on our sea life? We need to consider alternatives – what should be a happy and fun thing is causing lots of damage and harm to innocent sea life. Let’s embrace bubbles and BAN THE BALLOON!

Energetic Explorers:

an epic tale

Join us on an Energetic Discovery Tour where students will investigate the electrical appliances we use everyday. You will meet a cast of characters lurking in your homes, including the “Sneaky Power Suckers” and the “Good Timers” and learn how you can use these more efficiently.

Special guests

We are excited to let you know that we have confirmed that The Hon. Lisa Neville, Minister for Water, will be joining to officially launch #MWKTK17 in Wilson Hall at University of Melbourne.

There are also some other special guests coming along, but we’re not going to tell you who they are yet… But here’s a hint: there may be some footballs involved!

Thanks for making MWKTK17 happen!

The Melbourne Water Kids Teaching Kids Conference could not happen without the involvement of all of our amazing sponsor organisations. We would like to thank you for your support of KTK and commitment to empowering the leaders of tomorrow to have their voice heard today.
