Highlights – MWKTK15

The 2015 Melbourne Water Kids Teaching Kids Conference was a great success with almost 500 excited Water Warriors from 53 schools and 4 states from around Australia coming together to learn about a range of topics related to the theme Water For Life.

Thank you to all of the schools who put together a workshop, video or main stage performance.

Day 1, Etihad Stadium

  • MC Kayne Tremills was definitely very popular with delegates and even hung around to sign some autographs
  • Acknowledgement of Country by Mitch Tambo got delegates excited for the day ahead and a few even got to get up on stage and learn some new dance moves
  • Official launch by Ben Furmage, General Manager Customer and Strategy, Melbourne Water
  • Learning about the impact of the Northern Pacific Sea Star in Port Phillip Bay through Aspendale Gardens Primary Schools main stage performance
  • Hearing from some real life water warriors through the Expert Panel
  • 20 amazing interactive workshops
  • Hanging with Vinnie the platypus
  • Getting on Network Ten News with a live weather cross with Mike Larkan

Gala Dinner, Etihad Stadium

  • A thought provoking spoken word piece with Slam Poet, Abe Nouk
  • Official dinner opening by David Ryan, Executive General Manager Service and Delivery, Melbourne Water
  • Hearing from The Hon. James Merlino MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education
  • Laughing at MC Mike Larkan’s bad dad jokes
  • Finding out about the impact of drought in farming communities with a main stage performance from The Henry Lawson High School
  • Learning that without water there would be no life with a main stage performance by Sacred Heart Primary School, Mildura
  • Having a boogey to music provided by Carranballac College rock band, Minor Sensation

Day 2, Collingwood Children’s Farm – Environmental Project Day

  • Official launch by The Hon. Lisa Neville MP, Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water
  • Getting up close and personal with some of the inhabitants of the Farm
  • Building nest boxes with La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Learning some fishy fun facts with Melbourne Water
  • Helping to revegetate the banks of the Yarra River
  • 4 great school EPD activities
  • Sharing our take home messages in the reflection session with Richard Wood
