The following checklist will help you keep track of your group’s progress towards changing the world by enhancing one facet of your local area. Remember you can ask for help from the team at Kids Teaching Kids with ideas and examples of running a small or large event. All big projects start from humble beginnings on scraps of paper so here are some things to think about to get you started.
  • What local environmental problem are you going to address?
  • Rationale – Why are you doing it?
  • When and where will the event be held?
  • Slogan – Kids Teaching Kids
  • Market – Who is your audience?
  • Objectives and outcomes – What do you hope to achieve?
  • Themes, messages, topics – Choosing these well is a significant step in the success of the venture.
  • Mentors – Choose mentors carefully; they are powerful role models as well as excellent sources of information.
  • Celebrities – Look to invite celebrities – every town has at least one celebrity or use students to stand in for those celebrities.
  • Sponsorship – For schools, many organisations and local businesses would benefit from having their name associated with your mini-conference, for example, The Farmers Store Environment Fair.
  • Action plan and budget – Who does what, when and where and how much it will cost to do so?
  • Media coverage – Invite the local media. Using the media and how it uses you are important lessons for your students/employees to learn.
  • Evaluation and further action – What measures will you use for student growth? What direct follow-up action is required to improve your patch?
